What's wrong with it, don't you know that competition is the only way we'll ever improve our artsand sciences! All you peace-loving-hippies have really got to get a clue and accept that the only way to truly know what is superior is either the vicious competition that an industry sponsored contest, or the amount of currency that can be generated in an uncontrolled market.
Why should the arts and sciences be exempted from this. Just look at how the Eurovision Song Contest has improved the quality of contemporary music!
All the former Soviet block countries, (Russia - St. Peterberg University, Poland - Warsaw University) did best ..followed by US institutions,.. ahem

I blame George W. for sending a wave of negative accademic karma, thus destabilising engineering colleges all over America.
