Nvidia Drivers Enforce Macrovision's Rules
Ant writes "According to 'Nvidia Macrovision DVD-TV rules forced on consumers', Nvidia drivers 41.09 and onwards include 'stringent checks' to comply with Macrovision requirements. That could mean if you have a TV encoder that does not support Macrovision, you may well get an error message depending on what DVD software player you are using, the company has said."
The violation of Rob Malda (Score:-1, Offtopic) by Anonymous Coward on 01:01 PM November 11th, 2003 (#7441124) Rob "CmdrTaco" Malda stepped off the bus and was led into the yard of the Main State Correctional Institute. He had been given ten years for participating in a stock fraud. Five with good behavior. Years spent basking in the glow of a CRT had been hard on him. His body was frail, his skin pallid. He knew he could never make it through ten years in the general population with his virginity intact. He had to get into solitary. As soon as the burly guard unshackled him he made his move. Exhaling a feminine "hmmph" he weakly slapped the guard. He was quickly taken to the ground, receiving a swift kick to the ribs before being restrained. As he was dragged to the solitary confinement cell he felt nothing but relief. "At least in solitary," he thought "I'll be safe." Unfortunately for Rob he had picked the wrong guard to mess with. The next few days were uneventful. The time in his cell he spent evenly between sleeping, reading a "Perl for Dummies" book he had gotten from the book cart, and masturbating furiously. His self-flagellation was interrupted on the fourth day. The burly guard he had attacked earlier stepped into his cell. The gleam in the guards eye and the mean grin on his face made Rob's pecker quickly shrivel in his hand. "You fucked with the wrong man when you fucked with Michael Simms," said the guard. "The inmates here call me The Asshole for a reason. Now come with me, punk." The guard led him down the hall to one of several empty shower stalls. He roughly threw Rob in the stall and locked the door. Rob was petrified. His mind raced as he imagined the myriad of different tortures that could be in store for him. His worst fears were confirmed when the guard returned. In his hands were a short black dress, black stilleto heels, and a curly blonde wig. "Strip down and put this on, bitch." Rob did as instructed and was pleased to notice that the dress fit well and the heels gave him a nice slimming effect. The burly guard admired the drag queen. "The GNAA is gonna love you!" The guard left the shower stall, only to return minutes later. He opened the door and led 20 large black men into the stall. "Rob, meet the Gay Nigger Association of America. GNAA, meet Rob. I'm sure you all will get along fine." With that the guard slammed the shower door closed and walked away laughing. The men approached Rob, backing him into a corner. The apparent leader stepped forward. "No matter what I'm gonna fuck that purdy lil' ass of yours. Now I can fuck it dry or you can lube it up for me." Rob knew he had no choice. He kneeled in front of the leader, who began to slap his face with his 10 black inches. Puss from syphilictic sores quickly covered Rob's cheeks. When the leader was sufficiently aroused he placed his throbbing cock up to Rob's lips. As soon as Rob opened his mouth the leader violently shoved his manhood to the back of Rob's throat and exclaimed "Swallow my shit you cracker bitch!" Rob gagged as he was violently face fucked. Just when he was about to pass out the leader pulled out, turned him around and shoved his cock into Rob's ass. Rob began to scream in agony but his cries were quickly muffled by one of the other gang member's cocks. They rode him like that for the better part of an hour. When one man finished another quickly took his place. Just as Rob was getting used to the throbbing pain in his anus the men stopped. One man lay down on the floor and Rob was told to get on top of him and take his dick inside him. Exhausted and humiliated, Rob had no will left to fight. As soon as he inserted the penis another man came up behind him and began to force his cock into Rob's already filled anus. Again his screams of agony were muffled, this time by a smelly black anus. For another hour he was violated in this way. When the men were finished with him he couldn't walk and his mouth was filled with dingleberries and ass hairs. Before they all left the leader had some parting words for Rob: "Thanks for that sweet piece of ass, punk. We'll see you again tomorrow. Oh by the way, we all have AIDS." It was going to be a long ten years for Rob. [ Reply to This | Parent ]
Nvidia's disgraceful behaviour is further outline here.
That's the most disgusting link I've ever seen. It beats Goatse by miles and leagues.
NO amount of curiosity will suffice to pay for the images thrown in your face. Seriously.
You must be new to the internet.
The owls are not what they seem
Is it still trolling when the trolls make reasoned arguments with sourced evidence?
Of course it is. Trolling is every bit as much about presentation and context as it is about content. You still have much to learn, young trollette.
Interesting, somehow that site beat firefox's almost unbeatable ability prevent popups...
:)
Unfortunetly, I didn't stick around long enough to explore how it works!
Reasoned arguments can only be allowed when the arguments are reasoned. Please check on a couple of links you will see that the percentage of linux accessing google remains the same: 1%. No more, no less.
So to say that linux is dying is not a reasoned argument. So the troll is: offtopic, not containing reasoned arguments and a general flamebait to the linux loving crowd.
Maybe we really should have the "Bill Gates" moderation option, next to troll.
The site where: "I'm right, as long as you ignore the things that prove me wrong", became a valid method of debate.
Incas, Toltecs and a few other South American native peoples would have cared. Unfortunately you fuckers killed them all a few hundred years back. Too bad.
The obvious conclusion is that it's less likely that Linux is dying, when it's more likely that Windows has infected a class of consumers that were previously computer illiterate and normally content to breath through their mouths. So really what we're seeing is a lot of new people on the internet who just barely know how to use Google that are diluting the original computer enthusiasts and professionals who actually know that everyday people can program a computer and create their own applications that work as well (if not better) than what the corperate overlords dictate through their bloated, phone-home, crap-ware.
To bring it slightly back on topic: If you want easy TV and DVD support in one box, use an ATI AIW card under Windows.
If you want TV and DVD on a nice Linux box, grab a Haupauge and a nice non-NVidia card.
If you want to do WinEX gaming with DVD get an NVidia card.
If you want it all and more, then I suggest you start building and coding your own. Then tell us all how you did it on your home page so we can all /. your site.

Personally I think it would be nice to be able to mod your own posts down beyond the "[x] No Karma Bonus" option for times when you know that what you're going to say isn't going to be popular, but you still feel it needs to be said even if it's not as widely heard. That way people wouldn't waste mod points modding down everything they think is "overrated", "off-topic", "troll", or "flamebait", and you don't have to worry about being branded off-topic or unpopular.
Naturally, if you have terrible karma, you'll have -1 scores no matter what, but those are the breaks. You've got to expect some penalties for being an obvious arse. But some people with better karma would like to sign their names to stuff they know isn't their best work, but just don't have the guts to risk their precious karma. Ah... but those are the breaks as well.
And yes, at the time of this post my karma was excellent, but given the choice, I'd gladly have posted this at -1 without bias and let other people decide if it needed to be heard.
"To bring it slightly back on topic: If you want easy TV and DVD support in one box, use an ATI AIW card under Windows."
Except that the AIW cards also support macrovision. at least on the tv-in side. I've got a tv and a vcr hooked up to mine, but about 1/2 -2/3 of my videos on tape would look like a scrambled cable channel. I did some digging (on ATI's website, under troubleshooting iirc) and found out that it was deliberate, thier cards 'honour macrovision encoding'. I assume thier tv-wonder also does this. This and the stunt the pulled about having to pay $15 dollars to get a cd sent to you if you wanted to upgrade the drivers past a certain point, (or not having dvd playback functionality, or having to mix and match drivers for sub-components) really pissed me off for a while. they've fixed that last issue and the confusing mess of what drivers to download and in what order to install them, etc. though with thier latest series of driver.
So anyone know where I can get a filter of some sort to put between the vcr out and the AIW tv-in to fix the one remaining 'feature'? iirc a few places had hardware that would help clean up weak signals and such from old tapes that also killed the macrovision crap as a byproduct, but that was a 5-10 years ago.

Eh, I'm off-topic. You're off-topic. This whole forum is off-topic!

If you want TV and DVD on a nice Linux box, grab a Haupauge and a nice non-NVidia card.
This is something that worries me. I want the freedom to choose my hardware. I use a USB TV tuner not made by Hauppauge. There aren't many options out there for laptop users when it comes to video. Hauppauge is notorious for its poor support, even on the Windows platform. In order to watch TV or a DVD on Linux (which I had planned to do), I have to buy new hardware from a company I'd rather not support. There is a project to get my PCTV Deluxe USB working under Linux, but I'm not at the point of trying it out yet. I have an intergrated NVidia video adapter, a slew of DVDs, and 54% of a Linux iso downloaded
Incidently, I thought NVidia was a Linux favorite since the company does a good job of supporting Linux with optimized drivers, while ATI has always been lackluster in supporting Linux? In doing some research, I had learned that NVidia was my best bet for gaming under Linux.
Hi, i just noticed that I have a fan. how did that happen? (i'm just curious)
