The New Linux Speed Trick

Brainsur quotes a story saying " Linux kernel 2.6 introduces improved IO scheduling that can increase speed -- "sometimes by 1,000 percent or more, [more] often by 2x" -- for standard desktop workloads, and by as much as 15 percent on many database workloads, according to Andrew Morton of Open Source Development Labs. This increased speed is accomplished by minimizing the disk head movement during concurrent reads. "

It seems to me that any kernel that can claim 1,000x speed improvements must either be (a) very early in development, (b) written by a bunch of monkeys who don't know shit about writing an OS, or (c) written by a bunch of teenagers in Russia living in their parents basement. Most likely a combination of all 3.

My recommendation? Try going outside. Find out about these things called "women".

1000 PERCENT faster isn't the same as 1000 TIMES faster. It's more like like 10 TIMES faster.

Wooo 1000x, where can i get this new kernel?

    No, 1000 percent. Ie 10x.

Has anyone mentioned to him yet that 1000% does not equal 1000x ? If not, I'd like to receive some karma please (thanks in advance).
