Appreciating Your Stressful IT Job?
in the trenches asks: "I'm a married, 24-year-old male, and like many posters here on Slashdot I work in the IT industry. I currently work as a website developer (mostly design-related work), but I also do some Perl and PHP programming. As most of you probably have, I've often wondered if I wouldn't enjoy working in a less stressful environment. I've even gone as far as to wonder if I'd prefer some sort of factory job or similar over my current field of work. The problem is this, I LOVE developing websites, but I HATE the stress and responsability that comes with a the job. How do you all cope with the stress and responsability that seems to come hand-in-hand with an IT career?"
Yet another case of some lamer who thinks he's elite coz he knocks together another fucking web site. For fuck sake, know your place, you want stress, try doing a real fucking job where the peoples lives depend on you.. That's stress.
Grrr. What kind of chicken shit randomizing process does Slashdot use to select its stories?
So I find out a company called Forgent Networks is suing over 31 leading software and hardware vendors like Apple, Dell, IBM, Kodak and Xerox over JPEG patents, take the time to find the patent and link it, and my story get rejected. But a "boo hoo I'm stressed" story is accepted. God, I have to get rid of this shit.
(Ah, I love the smell of karma in the morning)
Oh joy! How I love to clean Stimpy's diaper and wipe Stimpy's ass!
This is my sig. There are many like it but this one is mine.
fucking Americans...
I'm an Iraqi and I have to stay here ALL YEAR ROUND, 365/24/7 with you sons of bitches trying to kill us.
Really?....
Well where I work as a programmger they keep the air conditioning set at "freeze your ass of". It could be 90 degress out side and I am inside wearing a jacket and fucking shivering!
I spend all day sitting staring at a worn out aincent monitor that hurts my eyes and is probably putting ouy all kinds of bad radaition. You have meetings? We are not alowed to talk to other programmers (that is considered 'cheating')! At the end of the day my ass hurts and I feel like barfing some times.
My boss likes to micro-manage. If we are a minute late or leave a minute early we get reprimanded or it shows up on our performance reviews. Of course he strolls in exactly whenever the fuck he wants.
I have to fill out fucking daily status reports and account for almost every minute of my time. We can not talk to anybody about anything for more than 5 minutes without managment permission.
I make shit money. Well it used to be ok, but no raises and costs are increasing. Add to that my girlfiend just suckerd me out of all the money I had had saved up and she blew it all out her ass. I can never have anything nice, and I am either going to have to die before I hit retirement or work until I am fucking 140. PLEASE KILL ME!!!!!!!
I get to work around compleate fucktards!! An entire IT division and nobody knows anything about computers!!!! Here I am the brain the size of a planet, with experience in all kinds of shit and they want me to make stupid retarded "web applications".
I think I would be happier being a damn ditch digger.
Posting anonymously to avoid the wrath of certian retards... probably shouldn't even post at all but it makes me feel a tiny bit better.
waiting for 20 seconds... waiting waiting waiting waiting Miller Lite

Growing, injesting, and smoking them all really cut down on the stress.

To all you whiners suffering from such a stress filled life........ Do a few things to cure your stress....... 1) Go visit Gettysburg, Valley Forge or any Revolutionary War or Civil War battlefield. Look and listen.. These young farmers gave up a hell of a lot more than you ever did to make this country what its is. Hey "cliche advice hater" . Here's on for you. USA love it or LEAVE IT. 2) If your job does not have the real possibilty of someone trying to kill you then your stress is in your head and not in your job. Public safety workers, police , fire, EMT's put their life on the line every time they put on their uniform. Not quite the same as responding to a hard disk crash or a server breakdown. Not a cliche... just a fact 3) Read the Gettysburg address. 4) Read the Constitution of the United States. 5) Volunteer your time on something different than you work on. It's a big world out there. You are better off than you think. 6) Volunteerng to serve in the US Armed Forces is an honorable and noble calling. Not all can do it. Those who serve and later return to civilian life make this a better country in which to live...
