Biometric ID Cards Ready For Trial In UK

There's been a fair amount of debate on this recently, and it's been coming for some time, but live trials are sooner than expected. The trial is set up to evaluate three competing biometric products. Qinetiq, quoted by the story, are a government backed company set up to use MoD tech in civilian apps."

I've been trying to think of ways that this card could help _me_ go about my day-to-day life. I cannot think of one single reason.
Recently I was a victim of identity fraud. Someone visited my old house, found some junk mail with my full name on it, and then proceeded to order GBP 650 of mail order goods. Would an identity card help here? Not likely.
About 5 years ago, I was walking home from a friend's house. I did not take my wallet with me as I was only going out for 10 minutes. The police stopped me because of the way I was dressed and proceeded to give me twenty questions. They were looking for a mentally handicapped adult who had 'escaped'. With no ID on me I said "Do I look like a fucking mental case?". To which the reply was no. "Fucking idiot" I said I went on my way. Would having an ID card helped _me_ in this situation? No, a swift Fuck Off was all that was needed.
A swift Fuck Off helps _me_ live _my_ life the way I want to. An ID card doesn't.
So, Blunkett, a Fuck Off is the only real help here. If you want a solution to the illegal immigrants then I suggest telling them to Fuck Off as well. Put a big sign up in all languages by the Channel Tunnel that says "Fuck Off (or we'll shoot you)".
Will the police have yet another reason to stop people who are just going about their business? Yes.

One of the main problems with illegal immigration at the moment is that they can easily walk through the Channel Tunnel. Why don't they set up a few machine guns on our side, then anyone who walks through illegally gets shot down by a couple hundred bullets? Seriously. Those who didn't die would run back screaming and go tell everyone over in France about it, and they'd be scared shitless to walk back into England.
OK, so a few people will die, a hundred or so at the most, but just think how many immigrants die from being used as slaves and this and that anyway. Kill 100 to save a million.
It does make sense. You know it does.
The scary thing is that if the UK government gets out of hand the people can't stop it. Gave up their guns awhile back ya know...
