Best Images Yet Of Saturn's Moon Titan

DoraLives writes "During recent commissioning observations of a new instrument designed for a completely different purpose, the European Southern Observatory managed to grab the best imagery yet of Saturn's largest moon. Although the imagery bears more than just a passing resemblance to some of the quainter maps of other planets there's no denying the superb, sub tenth arcsecond, resolution of the new images. And of course, if that's not good enough, they're sending a a little something to land on Titan next January. Should be interesting."

It is almost impossible to rise up these days. The authoritarian actions of the "editors" of this site to put in the unnecessary and sadistic 2 posts per day posting limit killed off the vibrant and exciting troll community.

Indeed, there were people who read slashdot comments particularly for the trolls. The shortsightedness of the editors, of what seems ages ago now, have caused this site to cease being anything but a sad nostalgic trip for techheads.

The only way to force a change in this site is through the careful moderation and meta-moderations. Journal's like sllort's used to argue for the modding down of inane and worthless replies which contain no real argument, discussion or info.

Unfortuntaly, for all the talk on freedom, democracy and creating good discussion by the slashbots, they seem unwilling to convert their words into actions. Democracy in action. People moan and complain about everything and anything, but yet when it comes to voting day, they vote for the person who has the best hair, or who likes the sports they like.

Decadence is to blame for all the first-world troubles.

I'm not trying to troll, but lately my sheer opinions have been widely regarded as troll. I guess I should apologize for what other people see me as, even though I can't control that. I can only control what I am.

Anyway, are you saying that there is always a shuttle ready to launch, and at such short notice that it could work as a lifeboat for the ISS? (NOT A TROLL. SERIOUS QUESTION.)

My second question (without any trollish intentions, mind you), is this: Aren't they going to use the russian Souyz as a lifeboat?

They promised years ago to take detailed photos of the moon landings down to less than a foot per pixel.

    Still nothing!!!!

Yes I believe they are there, but perhaps there is MORE THERE perhaps.

I know you need some pretty small arc seconds to get high res on the moon, and it does MOVE fast in the sky. But its hardly hubble technology, it shouldnt be too hard.

Just point at the damn moon, if its too bright, take a photo of the DARK portions exposed for longer or use IR/UV.
