On Digital Distribution For Games - Does It Work?

Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for its article discussing whether digital distribution can really work for videogames. The piece focuses on NP Cube, developers of PC MMO Dark And Light, who are based on the tiny Reunion Island, east of Madagascar, and intend to distribute free versions via "a peer-to-peer site", before charging a monthly fee later. Co-founder Laurent Paret argues of online distribution: "It's so much more cost-effective than signing a contract with a publisher... One peer-to-peer company wants to charge us $300 a month to distribute 'Dark And Light.' I have no idea how they can charge so little and I'm not asking." However, Mark Jacobs of Mythic Entertainment disagrees with the approach, suggesting: "I know they think they can make up some of their development costs earlier if they distribute online [thus getting higher profit margins]... But they're sacrificing long-term profits for short-term gains."

No matter how much you want to, you can't say it's the woman's fault..even
if she goes out naked in public. Rape is a crime...a decision a guy
makes. Nobody is ever forced to rape somebody...they choose to rape. 90%
of rapes happen because guys feel like they have a "chance" to rape and
maybe get away with it. Most guys WOULD rape a girl if they could get
away with it. What makes a girl vulnerable to rape? Little clothing,
alcohol, being alone miles away from home, etc. Just because a girl wears
a sexy outfit doesn't mean she is asking to be raped. But women have to
be smart about this. I know women don't ask to get raped, but they do
little to prevent it from happening. I know they don't expect anyone to
rape them, but we live in a time where a woman gets raped every minute.
So how can women prevent rapes? Well, first you have to look at the guys
you are with. You might think that you can't tell if someone's a rapist
by just looking at them, but don't you have that "women's intuition"
thing? Well, use it. When you look at a guy, THINK rape, think if it
applies to him. If he is a guy you'd think would rape you if he had the
chance, then get away from him. Remember, most men would rape a girl if
they had the chance and could get away with it. The next thing you should
think about is alcohol. A drunk girl is just so easy to rape. And you
don't even have to be drunk...the guy could slip something into your
drink. Never accept a drink straight out of a guy's hand, but if you do,
wait a while before you drink. If he seems very aggressive in trying to
get you to drink it, tell him you're on medication and can't drink alcohol
or something. Just be careful...be alert...remember, 1 out of 5 women
will be raped...it's sad but true.
