Mono Project Releases Beta 1

AArnott writes "Ximian has just released beta 1 of its open-source implementation of Microsoft .NET platform. Mono allows .NET applications to run on Linux, Mac OS X, Unix, Windows. Mono 1.0 is slated for release on June 30, 2004." sjanes71 adds "The first 'beta' always gets heaps of attention, and this is the first of three planned for the Mono project. Some of the new features touted for this release that updates Mono v0.31 include a faster interpreter, a global assembly cache, support for the StrongARM and HPPA platforms, generics support in the VM and C# compiler and an early alpha of System.Windows.Forms. C# and .NET is Microsoft's answer to Sun Microsystem's Java platform and Project Mono aims to create the Open Source, cross-platform version of Microsoft's new development environment."

As long as Steve Ballmer's running around and sweating disease does not cross the trans-systems border and render its ugly self into linux geek emotional disturbances than I'm fine with the occasional windows virus on my linux box. Please keep that man and his trip away from me though, thank you.

Using imwheel? Sucks doesn't it? You know if you had to run an NT Service on Windows in order to get thumb buttons working, all the Linux users would bitch about how bad Microsoft sucks. But it's OK to have a dirty, unintuitive, highly volatile hack like that since it's Linux.

    A question:

Why is the Microsoft punk working so hard to make something dimwitted and out of Redmond such a standard? Who is he really working for? It is for example known that he has many 'friends' on the Microsoft campus.

    Another question:

Why are so many people interested in this pathetic piece of shit (note that this is a reference to both the product or the person).

Name one thing that isnt a MS or Apple copy?

Yeah I know everyone copies but linux is the worst. Its a cheap copy that tends to lag 5 or 6 years behind whatever commercial products are out.

Is any thing GNU/open sores original?

You may hate "M$" but at least they do try and develop new features and push computing forward.

I am glad I dont need to compile a driver to play a game, edit multiple text files to get my multi button mouse to work right, or deal with ass hole zealots telling me to RTFM when I ask a question.

Another OSS project that is a clone of something Microsoft did, while the community bitches about Microsoft.

Is there a single original thought in the entire OSS community? The power of volunteers the world over, and we make a clone of UNIX, then we make a clone of Windows on top of it. Nice.
