Plextor First With A 12x DVD+R Drive
Tesko writes "It seems the first 12x DVD+R drive has been released by none other than Plextor, with their Model PX-712A (Product link here). The drive's write speed includes, 48X CD-R, 24X CD-RW, 12X DVD+R, 8X DVD-R, 4X DVD+RW, 4X DVD-RW. And it's read speed comes in at 48X CD-ROM/CD-R, and 16X DVD-ROM. Also noteworthy, the drive apparently has a 8MB buffer."
your site is so freaking stupid i am now dumber for browsing it.
While the specs are impressive, the cost can be prohibative, and the quality erratic at best. Hell, it can be down right shoddy at worst, I'm speaking from experience (a bitterly forced refund) here.
I got my first story on /. !!!
Where the hell does one find 12x DVD media, anyway? By the time the media of that speed is available, the price of the 12x drive itself will have been cut significantly. Most DVD+R media is available in the 4x variety, with a few at 8x.

this comment works best if you imagine him saying it with a lisp.
Damn you slashdot, for reminding me my order is now 7 days overdue :(
:) The biggest gripe I had with a cheap NEC drive, was the hugeeeeee delay the drive has recognising the drive when a disc is put in.
Still, looks like a quality drive
