Alan Turing, the Inventor of Software

Roland Piquepaille writes "BusinessWeek celebrates its anniversary with a series of articles about the great thinkers and innovators from the past 75 years. The series stars with a profile of Alan Turing, "Thinking Up Computers." In case you forgot, Turing is the man who created the concept of a "universal machine" which would perform various and diverse actions when given various sets of instructions. In other words, he laid out in the 1920s the foundations of software. You'll find the introduction of Turing's profile, plus more details, photographs and references in this overview."

    Babbage did the real work. Turing just came up with ridiculous futuristic concepts that still don't work. But, you all come all over yourselves when you hack together some crappy framework that qualifies as "Turing complete".

    .. Turing was also a closet homosexual. At his autopsy they found a 10" long wooden dildo in his anus held in by an elaborate harness.

    That aside, he was a brilliant man. Truly an American icon.

    Although I agree with the sentiment, I have to insist that you close your 'niggers'. I mean, otherwise, the whole page could go niggardly. Here, I'll fix it for you:

    Turing was a homosexual and therefore untrustworthy. It's a simple relationship... homosexual is a perversion, and someone involved in one perversion is extremely likely to be drawn to others. You *cannot* have someone like that doing top secret work.

    And anyway, Turing is hugely overrated by the political correctness police (who always try to talk-up deviants in an effort to make them seem acceptable). His work was mediocre and mostly copied from gifted German (and heterosexual) mathematicians.

    I think it's interesting that anyone who disagrees with homosexuality is automatically labelled a "homophobe". The implication being that only irrational fears keep people from realizing how wonders and benefits of the homosexual lifestyle. Feh. Reasonable, valid arguments against widespread acceptance of homosexual behaviour can be made -- except the minute someone tries to start a dialog on that subject, the media pick up the pitchforks and torches and start screaming "Homophobe!". That doesn't leave much room for reasoned discussion.

    It's regrettable how homosexuals seize on anyone with achievements and use that to validate their sexual behaviour. If Turing had been a pedophile or into simulated rape would that validate those behaviours? I think that's a logical flaw.

    It's equally sad how often homosexuals point at any platonic friendship (in song, in literature) and begin theorizing that they were more than just friends.

    The slow, steady juggernaut has turned. It doesn't really matter anymore. In a few short years, our society will fully accept "consenting adults" as the guideline for any behaviour. Once the judiciary and the media have finished approving homosexuality for all of us, I wonder what the next crusade for acceptance will be? I suppose polygamy/polyandry is next "persecuited behaviour. Somewhere after that, we'll be told that 13 year olds are legally adults. I'm not sure what happens after that. But eventually, the psychologists will start to realize that "anything goes" isn't really a stable basis for society. (Like their turn around on blanket statements about divorce:
    1970s: "It's good for children";
    2000s: "It's not so good as we thought, mea culpa").
