*NOTHING* you stupid motherfucker is ever given to the RIAA.

You inbred fucking /. readers need to get off this fucking notion that the RIAA is a company.

Record Companies might get a portion of the .80 -- but Record Companies are *NOT* and I repeat *NOT* the RIAA. The Record Companies can join the RIAA, but this is *ONLY* an advocacy group that protects record company interests.

For instance EMI is *NOT* the RIAA. Capitol is *NOT* the RIAA. The RIAA has *NOTHING* to do with royalties and collections.

Past that, it is each and every one of the artists that decide how much they are getting paid per CD / Song. Of course, if they want to take the odds the Majors might give them, they might have to take a lower cut. I've signed several contracts in my days. As a lowly fucking tech that helped out on production at times, I was making a better rate than some of the artists that didn't read their contracts. As a tech, I have a high paid industry lawyer -- mainly because my name has appeared in some credits in various capacties, and its easier to pay him 20% of my gross than to end up 50% lower than what he could have gotten me otherwise.

Most artists use label lawyers who just tell them where to sign. If you got into a car accident, would you fucking take the advice of the lawyer of the drunk guy that just hit you and maimed your wife? You'd be an idiot if you did. I have *NO* respect for folks that let others dictate the terms without verifying to see that if while they are probably telling the truth, they are leaving out a good deal of information that is vital to your long term success.

So given to artists or the RIAA. Get your fucking facts straight or just become an DownHillBattle Zombie and believe everything these ignorant motherfuckers that couldn't sell a record to save their lives or just listen to the words of coked out junkies like Courtney Love who claims not to have ever made a cent in the industry because of the liers and cheats, all the while proclaiming this from her several mansions in the Beverly Hills area in her custom Versachi outfits.

Maybe you need to start a school for musicians that teach them to read the fucking print before signing them. We have a saying in the industry -- you don't have to be a flake to be a musician, but it helps.
