Mandrakelinux 10 Now Available To All
EvilAlien writes "Mandrakelinux has released the ISOs for Mandrakelinux 10.0. Mandrakelinux 10 is one of the first commercially available Linux distributions to feature the 2.6 kernel by default. As always, you can download the release via FTP or Bittorrent. Remember, if you use Mandrakelinux, join the club or buy a box to support them."

Some ten years after it hit 0.1 status, Linux is still not an OS. It's a kernel that's been duct taped to a disorganized, fragile mixed bag of poorly maintained utilities + a "translucent menus are so leet" desktop that runs on top on a gui that's showing its age. It could be a halfway decent OS if 1 it had a set of core utilities 2 it had an organized source tree for the same and a group of developers to make sure that it is in a buildable state, not just the kernel (which probably could afford to lose a lot of cruft as well) 3 OS developers focused on stability and simple, intelligent design instead of nifty new features, 4 Linux decided once and for all whether it was Unix or whether it was a luser-friendly gui OS with a Unix-compatibility layer. While windows is designed to appeal primarily to computer users with more money than sense, Linux appears to be aimed mainly at moderately intelligent teenage males with too much time on their hands. Linux is open source, but open source is not Linux. Linux is a viable alternative to Windows in most cases, but while Windows is trying to compete with features that Linux and Unix have long offered, Linux is taking on many of the bad attributes of Windows, apart from the license, which, while it is thankfully shorter than any license Microsoft wrote, still has a few dumb provisions that interfere in the development of good open source software.
