Austin Becoming Wi-Fi Hot Spot

Omega1045 writes "The Austin Chronicle is running an interesting article on how Austin is fast becoming the Wi-Fi Capital of the Free (as in beer) Wireless World. With the industry standardization board Wi-Fi Alliance moving to Austin earlier this year, and groups like Austin Free-Net helping local businesses, the article quotes Austin has having more hotspots 'than anywhere else on the planet'. While this article does quite a bit of bragging about Austin, it also does a great job of highlighting how businesses and local non-profits can work together to promote and profit from free Wi-Fi Internet access. This provides an excellent model for other cities to follow using tools like Less Network."

Personally, I don't care what Austin has. It's in Texas which is reason enough for me to never visit the place. Texas is one of the most backward places in Western society and I refuse to have anything to do with it other wish for its destruction and reclamation by the Mexicans.

Feh. You probably live in some gawd forsaken shithole like California or New York. You've obviously never been to Texas, and you are obviously clueless that Austin is very little like the DFW or Houston megalopolises. Even if you don't like big cities, you'd have to be a complete moron to consider any of the major cities in Texas 'backward'. Certainly not in high tech, certainly not in arts and entertainment. I've traveled most of the US as well as Europe, and there are plenty of places I would consider backwards in this country. Arkansas, Missisippi, Alabama, sure. Texas? No way. Stop listening to your ignorant, stuck up coaster friends and get out and see the world for yourself.
