Apple Expands (Again) iBook Logic-Board Program
JMZorko writes "Apple has extended the repair program to widen the serial # range yet again for iBooks experiencing the dreaded, dreaded (and did I say dreaded?) video problems. It now includes serial #s up to the UV342 range (which, sadly, mine is in .. here I thought I finally got one that would stay with me for awhile, sigh)."
that was the score.
I bought an iBook in 01'. The 500 mhz one. It had the problem, but unfortunately I spilled a glass of water on it and it was done. No applecare, out of warranty, so I figured hey, I'll just take the harddrive out of it and buy one of those firewire enclosure deals and make it all portable.
What I had thought before trying to do this was realized. iBooks aren't meant to be serviced by normal human beings. They got cyborgs. iBooks are not Pismos. Any fool could take a hard drive out of a Pismo. I now have an iBook, and though I did not RTFA, it is possibly covered by this program. This cool little laptop now sits in a case accompanied by an altoids tin filled with many, many screws and I still haven't gotten the bottom off of the mofo by now.
Last I checked it was about $800 to fix it out of warranty, but maybe if I could put all those screws in right, I'd have a mac again.
But I know this guy whose got a apple prototype g5 powerbook @ 3 ghz running OS X 11.0.5 and it can serously do holograms dude, so maybe I'll borrow that.
That jobs guy is seroiusly holdin out on us so tell those jerks at apple to step up.
