Dept. of Homeland Security Says to Stop Using IE

LWATCDR writes "I have been saying this for a long time but now it is offical. From Yahoo News: 'The Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team touched off a storm this week when it recommended for security reasons using browsers other than Microsoft's Internet Explorer.'" In related news, rocketjam writes "According to Wired, the widespread Internet Explorer security exploit last week and CERT's subsequent recommendation that IE users should consider switching to another browser has resulted in a large spike in downloads of the Mozilla Organization's Mozilla and Firefox web browsers."

    I just read some sad news on cnn.com. Actor/horror writer Marlon Brando was found dead in his home this morning at age 80. There weren't any more details. Even if you didn't enjoy his work, there's no denying his contributions to American film culture. Truly a Hollywood icon.

      Did you install the Greased Up Yoda Doll module? I called Mozilla.org's tech support and the friendly tech (I think her name was Mary-Kate Olsen, I'd ask for her) showed me how to get everything working.

    WTF? What about other "windows" manufacturers? You know, the ones who make those glass things that go in your house? Year after year, burglars come along and simply break the glass and rob the house. Yet, year after year, these manufacturers willfully neglect their obvious security flaws and keep making their products the way the want.

    Let's sue those bastards as well! Let's make them all make windows out of 1/4-inch steel! How dare they make a products used by millions of people that are so obviously flawed! I hear some installers don't even lock the windows after they install them! The expect the homeowners to do that themselves! Scandalous!

    Blind zealously is not usually an admirable trait, people.

    You know, I'm starting to get really tired of the whole ^H anachronism. It's like the computer equivalent of the needle scratch sound effect they use in movie trailers for punchlines.

    Is it even possible to generate a visible control code like this anymore? How many people are replying to Slashdot using a telnet session and a Pico editor? Come on. Get into the 21st century.

    "American," not "USian" or "USAian." People from Canada are "Canadian," people from Mexico are "Mexican," people from the United States of America are "American." People from any one of these three countries are "North American." People from somewhere in the entire hemisphere are "North or South American." Got it?
