U.S. Government Sometimes Jams Keyless Car Locks?
PizzaFace writes "The Washington Post reports that in certain towns (generally near military bases), on certain days (such as the day an aircraft carrier returns to port), keyless car entry systems and remote garage door openers mysteriously fail. While some frustrated motorists blame aliens, the FCC says the jammed frequencies belong to the U.S. military. The good ol' Post even tracks down a government contractor who all-but-confirms the source of the interference."
Dammit man! If you knew, why didn't you tell somebody!? To think this could have all been avoided. Nice going, you lazy git!
So it's all your fault then?
Asshole!
A "dampening field"? Life isn't Star Trek, regardless of how much you enjoy pretending that it is.
The government is apparently jamming certain radio frequencies, perhaps because they need them for their own purposes, or possibly because they want to thwart possible terrorist attacks. In any case, this has absolutely no possible effects on pacemakers or other medical devices.
Why is it that every time a story about any kind of non-computer-related technology is posted on Slashdot, we have uninformed dolts like you whining about imaginary dangers that you seem to make up on the spot? Are you hoping some idiot moderator will mark you Insightful?
Because rader units just not float in the air. They have to be put someplace, what do you thing the control towers use?
You rented it, you fucking moron. If you want a key, go buy a Mercedes.
Looking at your comment history, you sure as hell don't have mod points.
Looking at your comment history, I highly doubt your assertion that you work at a military base. I think you are nothing but a karma whore.

Unfortunately, the last two practices have been criticized all too often by its ombudsman.
Airliners are tracked across country by emissions from illegal cell phone usage. The minute they make cell phones legal on airplanes, the thrill will be gone and there will be no way to track airliners because only the military has powerful radars.
What kind of crap is this? All aircraft in the US are tracked by the FAA. Pre 911 anyone could access the feed but now you need to provide a reason why you need it. see http://www.airnavsystems.com/ANLV/ .
