Reduce C/C++ Compile Time With distcc
An anonymous reader writes "Some people prefer the convenience of pre-compiled binaries in the form of RPMs or other such installer methods. But this can be a false economy, especially with programs that are used frequently: precompiled binaries will never run as quickly as those compiled with the right optimizations for your own machine. If you use a distributed compiler, you get the best of both worlds: fast compile and faster apps. This article shows you the benifits of using distcc, a distributed C compiler based on gcc, that gives you significant productivity gains."
That's why I use Gentoo!
Now one can install Gentoo in _only_ 5 days!
Just by looking at her code I can tell she's hot.
how long does it take to compile "Hello World"?
And this is why we throw Linux on the toaster, microwave oven, coffee maker, food processor, game consoles, you name it. Anything with a processor helps. And I bet all this time you just thought we were crazy zealots.
If you fell sad, alone. If you think you are wasting your youth in many lonely nights, then compiling your Gentoo distribution with dedicated and optimizing flags may suit you.
Imagine a Beowulf Cluster of these! Oh wait....
Agreed, anyone who has enough time to learn a bunch of command line switches for each program they need to compile and BEFORE it even runs needs a girfriend. (not bitter about painting all Canada day weekend *^%^&%^&) If you're writing the code, fine compile it, if someone else wrote it NOBODY CARES! Give me something that works out of the box
