CeCILL: La Licence Francaise Du Logiciel Libre
News for nerds writes "Researchers at three French government-funded research organizations revealed the new Open-Source license, known as CeCILL (English .pdf here), which they say is compatible with the FSF's GPL. CeCILL is intended to make free software more compatible with French law in two areas where it differs significantly from U.S. law: copyright and product liability. I, for one, welcome our nouvelle overlord of freedom."

As Gnu/Linux makes headway into countries where freedoms are not respected it may come to be that the license will be rewritten to prohibit propogation of the software where it is used to criticize or undermine the state. The FSF/OS community and organizations are going to have to question the ethics of free software underpinning totalitarian states.

The US has kicked ass and taken names all over the world. We liberated countries and our own. We're rich with innovation, and technology. Our country is properous in ways others only dream of. Our last years GDP grew at 6% while the European countries were shy of 1%
You can be jealous and hatefull of the US all you want, it may be because were the most prosperous, where anybody can become rich. Where our "poor" own two cars and a television, and we have compasion for our "destitute" with programs, money, and help.
I'll eat to freedom anyday.
