The Difficulties of Patent Busting

wheresjim writes "An article on CNN.com entitled 'Tough road for patent-busters' describes the hard road one has to follow to get a questionable patent revoked. According to the article, of the approx 7,000,000 existing patents, only 614 have been revoked, and only 3927 have had their claims narrowed."

    See this leaked HP memo regarding Microsoft's strategy to kill Open Source with patents. We need to fix the patent system now.

    [Someone should] patent the process of getting a patent revoked.

    Whenever a patent story comes up on slashdot, at least one person (usually more) makes an unimaginative variation of the "... patent the process of patenting [whatever is mentioned in the story]" They are inevitably moderated as 'funny'. They are not 'funny'.

    Maybe we should patent the posting of lame posts on /. that complain about a joke that the person has heard too often.

    patents expire, just wait a few years and all the "damage" will have gone away.
