Don't Nurse Old Hardware - Emulate It

gManZboy writes "Bob Supnik, former team lead for DEC's VAX microprossesor, has an article up on Queue about his Computer History Simulation Project and how emulating old servers may be a better way to keep them running that servicing the physical machines. So how many PDP-11's can you run on a Pentium 4 anyhow?"

What about legal issues here, Nintendo own the rights to emulation if I recall correctly. Couldn't they pull the plug on this?

Emulating a server may also cross a few patents Microsoft own..

Christ. The truth is, Slashdot is basically a Gamer site. It's quite abnormal to see a real computer story here.

Sponsored Research Tech, huh pallie? That means your employment is basically subject to some little scientist's whims. I find this amusing because (1) what you do for work can be duplicated by any number of 13-year-olds who know how to configure Linux b0x3n and (2) The "work" that you do leaves you very little room in complaining about the state of the economy. Quite frankly the effect of your assistance in getting Nuclear Physicists online is quite miniscule and can be done by hundreds of thousands of other people and I hope your job is undercut after you snub an important somebody, isn't a self-aggrandising pseudo-intellectual tool like yourself.
