Finny The Fish Swims Into Videogaming View

Thanks to IGN PS2 for its short article noting Natsume has announced the PlayStation 2 action title Finny the Fish & the Seven Waters for North American release "in the first quarter of 2005." NCSX describes the Sega WOW developed Japanese version as being "a surprisingly fresh and engaging gaming experience", as "the protagonist UO (fish) is sent on a mission by an old turtle creature... prey may be gobbled up by wagging the right thumbstick... fishermen also plunk their appetizing baited lines into the water to snatch hungry fish." There are also a number of screenshots of this quirky-looking title over at The Magic Box.

They'll have a hard time matching the simplistic brilliance of .::FISHY!::.

In the screenshots, such as this the frogs are talking in Chinese, not Japanese...
Its very doubtful there was an official version....maybe a hacked Chinese version?
My chinese is a bit rusty and the screen is low res, so I can't make out the last character, but the first four are:
    jiegou shih ni
Which means something about your results, I guess the last character is kind of important!

You sure it's a good idea to be taking a japanese fish and bringing it here "for North American release."

A news article from a couple days ago (08/05/04) on the subject...

What was it a few days ago "If it doesn't have army men it's original"?

Well this seems original but I don't find the idea very entertaining, if I want to swim around and get food then I'll goto a leisure centre, swim for an hour and grab some lunch.

Anyone remember the "Seaman" game on the Dreamcast? Same thing, different ideas. It'll fail majorly outside of the Asian market, but in that market it'll sell like hot (fish)cakes.

Achtung! You're reading the gaming section of Slashdot. This wasn't a main story, and yes, it does qualify as news for gaming nerds.

I'm always glad to see more PS2 imports. Now we just need that weird rolling game, that cool drumming game, and the ribbon games and I'll be happy.
