Is MySQL Planning a Change of Tune?
Iggy writes "After reading the article on 'The MySQL License Question' by Timothy R. Butler at Open for Business I just have to wonder, is this company's wording on the MySQL site indicating the company is backing away from Free Software, specifically, the GPL? Great reading and certainly thought provoking."
You're right, that is flamebait. MySQL isn't a niche. The "small/medium" website = 99% of websites out there. And who cares if it "makes the hard things impossible"? By hard, you should have said obscure, because most people won't need the extra functionality of PostgreSQL, EVER. It's odd that you would call these same people "clueless n00b"s, when they prefer ease over obscure.

Is this a case of the GPL being a bad thing?
Yes. The GPL is a bad thing whenever you need to interoperate with non-GPL software. This means that as integration gets more and more common, the GPL will become more and more annoying. Soon it will become clear that there are only two acceptable outcomes: all software under the GPL, or no software under the GPL. Anything inbetween and you'll find that everything you want to do with your software is illegal.
