The Programmer Who Could Save Tivo

Damon Darlin from Business 2.0 writes "We just posted a story on Arthur Van Hoff, the programming legend who now works at TiVo. He was one of the Java geniuses at Sun (has almost as many patents as Bill Joy) and started Strangeberry, which Tivo bought in January. the story tells how his Strangeberry software will be given away to developers of web content. The next generation Tivos will then be able to recognize web content and direct it to the appropriate home device. This could be the stuff that saves tivo because none of the set top boxes will have this ability.

If you want to know what a dog's penis tastes like, lick the underside of your wrist just after taking a shower. A dog's penis tastes something like that. No kidding! If you don't believe me, try it yourself. A dog's penis is kept clean in a protective covering called a sheath. Dogs do not sweat, so there's very little taste at all. Dog semen has been described as having a metallic electrical taste, like licking across the terminals of a battery. The taste is subjective, but it's what you might expect semen to taste. I wrote the above to make a point about programmed fears, not so much to describe dog sex for its own sake. I hope to change at least one person's mindset away from an emotional "That's sick!" reaction to one involving rational thought processes. The world needs as many rational people as it can get. Your fears are the tools of your enemies. The more you fear, the more you will be controlled.

How does a remark such as the above become moderated to level 5?

The Tivo PVR is functionally equivalent to the ReplayTV PVR. Neither has outstanding functionality. (Although the easily accessible commercial skip on the Replay is very nice. You don't have to hack through configuration screens to find the option as on the Tivo.)
