British Town Worried About WWII Ammo Ship Wreck
Radical Rad writes "For 60 years, 1.4 kilotons of unstable world war II bombs have lain in the rusting wreck of a US cargo ship half-submerged on a sandbank in the river Thames. If it explodes it will be one of the biggest non-nuclear explosions ever with predictions of a 3 kilometre high wall of mud, water, and metal fragments causing devastation to the nearby town of Sheerness in Kent." The BBC has more.
Nuke it from orbit...
60 Years now eh?
Heh, well whats 60 more... Sounds alot cheaper to store the ammo in the river then it would be for us to remove it and destory it safely, good job US, saving money any way possible heh.
Since when did slashdot become the History Channel or the exploding things alert channel? How does this involve modern technology?
If you could be told what you can see or read, then it follows that you could be told what to say or think - BoC
If it's a U.S. cargo ship, are we responsible for cleaning up our mess?
More cynical sub-question: if we are responsible, do you think George Bush and Co. are busy right now trying to think up some way to blame it on the terrorists so that they can get funding from the U.N. to clean it up?
"If it explodes it will be one of the biggest non-nuclear explosions ever with predictions of a 3 kilometre high wall of mud, water, and metal..." A bit taller than 16 feet, my friend. Just a bit.
Mods, please go back in parents history and mod every comment you can down. Somehow this asshat has accumulated karma with idiotic comments such as this.
An ordinance is a law. Ordnance refers to ammunition.

Have you been to Sheerness ?

Burying the whole town is probably the best option
How can you say that igniton is unlikely and also say that forest fires happen every year from the igniton of old bombs????/what the hell are you talkng about?
