MPAA Piracy Survey - Junk Research
Cpt_Corelli writes "Alwayson network claims that a recent survey conducted by Online Testing Exchange (OTX) and distributed by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) is crap. The MPAA's summary of the survey claims, among other hard-to-believe assertions, that 'about one in four Internet users have downloaded a movie.' (It turns out this isn't true, but this is the factoid that was heard around the world the following week.) When did you stop trusting sponsored 'research'?"
What's up with rackspace featuring picts of not-so-cute but still fsckable women on their Slashdot ads?

But Since when did Sourcforge.net start supporting things like this. I understand that this is a private webpage on their network, but it's still annoying.

TROLLITERATI CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY FOR KURO5HIN DOWNTIME
Durham, NC--Prominent trolling group Trolliterati claimed responsibility for the August 20 downtime of kuro5hin.org, a popular site for pretentious grandstanding and pseudo-intellectual analysis of contemporary technology and culture.
Kuro5hin administrators attempted to cover up the Trolliterati attack by posting a false explanation for the downtime. The explanation read, in part: "We moved the servers to a different datacenter last night, and, well, there were some problems . . . This was actually a planned outage, but not planned for quite this long. We're working on it."
"Patently untrue," said Lucas Butts, Minister of Public Relations for Trolliterati. "Kuro5hin was owned by Trolliterati. Announcing the downtime as a 'planned outage' is simply a weak attempt at diminishing the humiliation that must be felt throughout the kuro5hin community at this time."
Analyzing the text in an aside to reporters, president Puer Magnus noted and condemned both the use of a broad pronoun reference and the placement a comma before a coordinating conjunction not beginning an independent clause. "The grammatical failings of this obviously phony excuse serve only to undermine the pomposity of kuro5hin and its administrators," he observed.
Although kuro5hin was restored to its usual hauteur on Friday afternoon, users reported a decline in overall smugness--perhaps due to the Trolliterati pwn1ng.
