UN Supports OSS/Free Software In Developing World
headisdead writes "This BBC report has details of the IOSN's (International Open Source Network) role in yesterday's Software Freedom Day. As the article rightly points out, the economic potential of these new markets for large tech corporations like MS makes this a real battle in the making. Question is, can Free Software really stem the tide when other sustainal development projects are struggling so much?"
Yeah, but you won't be able to afford the games that they SELL back to you using your free work, while you work at McDonalds for minimum wage in the US. Yay.
Who else should be deciding? The corporate marketers? It's not like these third world countries can figure it out on their own, or they would have already.
In order to achieve its fundamental goals the UN must become corrupt and take the place of the forces it seeks to protect weak nations from. Hopefully, it would be like giving methadone to heroin addicts, instead of letting them suffer on the poisonous milk of purely for-profit organizations' teats. But there's always the danger that the UN will give in to temptation and sell out.
Personally, I'm hoping the UN will sell out and enslave all the third world countries, but then robotics will make slave labor obsolete, so then the UN can make all the men have sex change operations, and then use all the women as sex slaves. Who wouldn't love to see that?
You could always go to India and become one of the She-Male sub classes. You'll always get a great job dancing at weddings as they view the she-male creatures as magical, combining elements of both sexes in one entity. All you have to do is cut off your balls and start eating estrogen.
More like, "MY MOM AND DAD ARE DEAD!" but anyway... At least the ethnic cleansers can keep their database of killings on a linux box with mysql and an apache server with php extensions to give it a nice user-friendly interface.
Makes me wonder when we will the first sourceforge project for such stuff. Like OpenGenozide 0.001alpha...
I'm posting this so that you (the moderator) have some context to consider twitter and not mod him up whenever he posts his filler preformatted rants about installing Knoppix or whatever that unfortunately get him karma every single time and allow him to continue posting his trademark toxic crap (read on) day in and day out. You may consider this a troll - I consider it community service. And I ain't kidding.
If you're a /. subscriber, I invite you to look through some of his posting history. I guarantee that you'll be hard pressed to find someone that is more "out there" than twitter. You'll also probably notice he's got quite an AC following. Don't just read his posts, make sure you go through the replies.
To get an idea of what I'm talking about, check this post out. I mean, this is an article about email disclaimers, right? The parent of the post is complaining about the ads in the linked page and so on, and twitter actually goes off on a rant to blame it on Microsoft and recommend Lynx. WTF?
Here's another. In this post twitter not only calls the OP a troll but attempts to "tell it like it is" while making some vague argument about "GNU". Yes, if you're confused, you're not alone. The reply (modded +4) proceeds to simply destroy his bogus argument. You will notice he did not reply. This is what some people call "drive-by advocacy". A sort of I'll just leave you with my thoughts here and move on to the next flamebait kind of deal. In fact, he almost never replies because he knows that his fanatical arguments simply do not hold up to any sort of discussion. It's not that he's chosen the wrong cause - he's just going at it in a completely wrong way.
More? Just read though this post and the subsequent replies. I guess this stands on its own. Or these two. Or this one.
Still not convinced? This is what twitter considers "humour" while going about his daily "M$" routine.
More? Bad spelling in astounding conspiracy theories, more offtopic FUD and uninformed "I'm right, look at me" rants, promptly proven wrong. Worse even, twitter wants to be RMS, apparently (that first one is a winner). I mean,
So what you're saying is that the open source business model will never work, thanks to Google?
That's very insightful, twit. I "truely" enjoy reading your self-contradictory and stupidity-filled bullshit posts. I mean, it doesn't get any better than this for a measly five bucks and our friends at OSDN (or whatever they're called this week).
You should really think about getting published, you know? Imagine it: ~/twitter: Life and times of a petulant psychotic Open Source zealot, and other collected stories. That would be "teh bomb", as we like to say.
