ATI Updates Linux Drivers
GraWil writes "Famed graphics card maker and documented Linux supporter ATI has refreshed its proprietary Linux drivers (3.11.1) for the Radeon and FireGL series cards. Unfortunately, many of the previous comments still apply and it seems that ATI is not yet committed to supporting Linux well. The procedure for installing is now documented in a separate how-to but it seems that quite a few are stuck in an endless cycle of compiling kernels with/without DRI/AGPGART/RADEON/DBE (insert random module here). For those with strong enough feelings, ATI is seeking feedback on these drivers."
The solution
It is more a difference in system architecture than it is a matter of one system being better than the other.
Such a comment has no place on Slashdot. Get out.
ATI is sloooow on supporting Linux.
ATI is sloooow on releasing Linux driver updates.
ATI is slooow on asking for assistance from Linux community.
ATI is sloooow on releasing native Debian packages.
ATI is sloooow on publishing a open-source driver with 3D support for my Radeon 9500.
ATI people, pleeease, stop using drugs and narcoleptics... IT is just BAD for H.E.A.L.T.H.!!
RIP Slashdot. I used to love you. dead account - but slashdot wont let me delete it.

I dare you to recompile your windows kernel to add any functionality.
I'm betting $10,000.00 that you cant.
I'll take a much faster video driver that has hooks in the kernel to the uber-slow windows kernel and system any sday...
UT2004 under windows needs at least a 1ghz processor under linux it runs better than the 2.4ghz windows machine on a Pentium III 866 computer with a horribly outdated Geforce FX5200.
when windows catches up to the linux performance then we can talk until then they have a lot of catching up to do.
Um, I don't play games on my computer either, but I still firmly believe that Linux sucks. It is badly braindamaged in a number of areas, and I have a firm belief that several Linux developers have, over the past twelve years, suffered from seriously bad acid trips. The really sad bit is that Linux is simply the best of a very bad bunch, so I use it even if it is shit.
