Why We Fall Apart

DM_NeoFLeX writes "An article in the September 2004 IEEE spectrum raises some interesting ideas comparing aging in organic organisms to aging in Electronic/Electrical systems. From the article: "The [reliability theory] is so general it can be applied to understanding aging in living organisms...In the ways that we age and die, we are not so different from the machines we build.""

...I had seen this article when I was dating my last girlfriend. Man, she used to fall apart at the drop of a hat. Nice girl and pretty too but she was not the most stable woman. She gets passed over for promotion at work, she falls apart. Her mom harrasses her that it's time to settle down with someone, she falls apart. The restaurant is all out of salmon, she falls apart. I think she was attracted to me because, as a geek, I'm used to fixing things and making them better. But her frequent emotional breakdowns were just too much for me to deal with on a daily basis.
