He'd like us all to believe that a totally unencumbered economy will lead to riches for everyone, but instead it only bolsters the rich 1% and takes us back down the road to feudalism.

From a geek's point of view (And there are many others) - get Bush out, or he'll take your Open Source software away soon.

I've never seen any reason for non-millionnaires to vote with the Republican party. They want to turn the USA into another Mexico - only extremely rich and extremely poor, no middle class at all.

I'm a Republican and I'm not a millionaire. I'm pro-gun and pro-life. That's two reasons to vote Republican. I also want lower taxes and smaller government. While Bush has made things worse on the smaller government front, I don't see Kerry talking about how he's going to change that. And what does Bush have to do with this anyway? Microsoft knows that they can get away with this as far as the law is concerned. They also think that consumers won't care and I'd bet that's the case. We can sit back and talk all we want about how WE won't buy any of this crap but I still know people who love IE so I don't see a mass boycott of these products. MS is going to produce whatever they want and people will buy it because it's made by MS. Sure some will switch but lets be realistic.

Bush's tax cuts resulted in a huge cut in federal spending on education so I have to pay $500 more for tuition this semester (the state, Maryland, also cut education funding because the governor is throwing a hissy fit about not getting the slot machines no one in the legislature wants). I almost had to drop out because I couldn't afford $4000 for tuition and $1300 for books.

Oh, and my taxes (federal + local) went up a couple of percent this year. And I gross about $10k a year. Tax cuts my ass. My aunt and uncle who filed a combined return of greater than $200k were happy though.

I assure you that I am not more likely to shoot a family member than an intruder.

First, would you care to cite an actual number and source?* "[M]any, many" isn't very precise. Does that statistic account for training and background? I have been shooting since I was a fairly small kid. I completed a hunter's safety course as a kid (and my Dad was a state hunter's safety instructor). I earned both the rifle and shotgun merit badges as a Boy Scout (back when it was two badges). I served in the Army for four years, including a hitch in the Balkans. I have completed the NRA's personal defense course, which is widely considered adequate training for concealed carry by sheriffs and police chiefs in Colorado.

Does your "statistic" hold when you limit the sample to people with similar training and backgrounds?

Second, could you explain how I'm going to shoot a family member when the nearest one lives some 15 miles from me as the crow (or 240 grain hydra-shok) flies?

Please exercise more caution in both your sources and application of statistics in the future.
