MS To Offer Windows Sans WMP, If EU So Orders
PSwim writes "Microsoft has said it will remove Media Player from Window, if ordered by the EU this week. The 'Windows-Lite'
version will only be available in Europe. Best quote from the article involves its refusal to release networking documentation: '"The Commission says Linux would disappear" if Microsoft did not grant access to its documentation, Smith claimed. "But Linux is alive and well and I don't know any person at Linux or any Linux programmers who share the Commission's view."'"
There are to kind of persons : the physical persons (you and me) and the moral persons (Microsoft, Apple and any other company).
You cannot put a company in jail as there'll always remain a part of the executive staff which triggered the original decision which costed them a law suit, especially if the mentioned executive lives abroad...
Trolling using another account since 2005.
"Me either." ?!!
You may want to consider the following alternatives to your notundoubleplusgood construction:
"Nor I."
"Neither of us understood it."
"I didn't understand it either."
"Me too."
Speaking of Windows, the other day I installed win2k on a PC as I needed to use some Windows software, and then set out to mount the NFS export from my Linux system, only to find that Windows does not support NFS.
I then went and searched the web for a free NFS client for Windows, but I can find only servers, and a client for win9x. Does anyone know of a free (beer is good enough) client that lets me mount NFS (or FTP, SSH or HTTP) directories as if they were drives on win2k? If not, I guess I could install Samba, but I am not that happy to run yet another service...
Please correct me if I got my facts wrong.
Easy. ... and will tell you what you can and canot do and the phone home aspect of it which i shut off...is discusting....also id like to point out in the EULA for WMP (may have changed)
/, crowd I for one have sent letters to EMI music.
No operating system should come bundled with anything... it just bloats the system and M$ is pushing WMP10 (in Beta at the moment) and will have (J)ANUS DRM
* Digital Rights Management (Security). You agree that in order to protect the integrity of content and software protected by digital rights management ("Secure Content"), Microsoft may provide security related updates to the OS Components that will be automatically downloaded onto your computer. These security related updates may disable your ability to copy and/or play Secure Content and use other software on your computer. If we provide such a security update, we will use reasonable efforts to post notices on a web site explaining the update. "
they wont tell you they just do it according to that and you have to find out what they did M$ that is..... one day you listen or watch you show run some software and the next day it breaks your computer.
What gives them the right to ROOT access to your computer....and Longhorn AKA paladium will only get worse..... taking control further and further away from the owner.
On a foot note id like to get more involved with Linux but the fan club here is to quick to make people feel like idiots but say RTFM ect instead of helping and makeing it easer for people to embrace linux.
which would help all partys.
and have you writen letters (that is the
stateing my dislike against DRM and corupt disks.
at least i told them that i didnt buy because the disks are DRMed so that is why there losing sales (ops a bit off topic.
but we need to educate the joe and jane six packs out there.
and quit whining
thats my 2 cents
So please explain to me why you corrected your parent post's use of a statement agreeing with a negative ("Me, either") with a construction designed to agree with a postive ("Me, too") You apparently know nothing of which you speak. Educate yourself before you bother giving correction to someone who needs none.

No matter how good Gnome and KDE have gotten, if the .net and JAVA software is lacking (Mono is not nearly complete, and is exactly fighting this catch-up game, JAVA is a nifty SUN Trap)
Between gcj, Kaffe, JamVM, SableVM, all driven by the GNU Classpath library, experimental stuff like Jnode, and the massive wealth of Java code in projects like Eclipse and those driven by the Apache Foundation..
I'd say that Free java is alive and kicking. Yeah, it still hasn't become usable with respect to AWT/Swing. But most of the core is there, even up to some 1.4 stuff. (and work on 1.5 features is underway)
I don't buy the "catch-up game" argument. Most people don't write programs for the absolute latest and greatest. Platforms tend to reach a certain level of maturity which is 'good enough' for most people, and then it slows down. I think that soon enough, the free Java implementations will be able to compete with Sun's.
For example, how many compilers can you name which fully implement the C99 standard?
Everything is a catch-up game... it's just a question of what the game looks like. MS can arbitrarily change things in the Word file format just to screw with people. APIs don't work that way though, you don't change an API unless you have to.
