Third World Research, Development & Innovation
tovarish writes "It is nice to see that countries like India are trying to research communication techniques in backward and rural areas. While tech savvy people like us enjoy the latest gadgets it is quite a challenge to develop gadgets which actually help the poor and illiterate. While India's satellite launches and outsourcing news are already covered in slashdot umpteen times, sometimes her sensible achievements should be covered too."
...and to still expect handouts from first world countries because they're so poor.
India has always struck me as a bizarre place: one of the poorest places in the world and yet they still feel they can afford to have nukes.
Bad analogies are like waxing a monkey with a rainbow.
Democracy? Sonia Gandhi got elected, pressure groups forced her out and replaced her with their un-elected leader. That's no democracy.

No, moron, "Third World" means low labor costs.
FUCK India.
You are a heartless liar. If India is 'self-sufficient' in food, WHY are the MAJORITY of indian children malnourished?
Frankly, you hindus or at least the hindu 'upper castes' have got to be the most callous bastards on the face of the earth!
You guys are becoming a nuisance. I keep hearing you coolies bragging about how many millions of scientists and engineers you graduate. So where are the indian nobel laureates? How come we have seen NOTHING innovative come out of that hellhole?
How come with all your millions of engineers you still cant build even a third world class infrastructure? Or even a halfway decent sewage system? Why are you dependent on tiny nations like Sweden and Israel for your military hardware?
You guys are so damn pathetic and so damn annoying.
If they weren't backwards and illiterate to begin with, they'd know better.
When India can figure out basic human rights and clean water, then I'll be impressed. Putting a computer in a village so people can surf for p0rn during their lunch hour is hardly innovation.
