Lord Prox writes "Doom:
The motion picture is now in production from
Universal Pictures for a release date of August 5, 2005. According to
IMDB the cast includes The Rock, Rosamund Pike, Razaaq Adoti, Ben Daniels, and Karl Urban. The plot
and
setting is right from the game."
It was my awesome performances that inspired the creative genius behind this movie..
The problem is that a lot of these games are great not because of great graphics but because of great plots and gameplay...
They COULD make a great movie based on games, it's just that the studios don't put a lot of effort into it thinking that they'll get a quick buck from name and hype of a popular game.
There's no reason Lara Croft couldn't be the female Indiana Jones (except some actresses are chosen for the wrong kind of assets).
Good entertainment reminds me of the food pyramid... there's a foundation and several layers to build up on... I work in television and I can tell you, long before it's released, when I'm working on something good, or working on crap. I don't know why the producers and directors don't understand this; maybe they're following the Ed Wood principle in reverse.
Anyway, any great movie starts with the foundation: the writing. Period. End of discussion. If the writing (we're talking screenplay, here) is good, you are almost certain to not make a bad movie (even if it isn't that great). None of these movies based on games has started with a good foundation.
For the record, IMO, the next level up is directing... so you can certainly ruin a good screenplay with bad directing, but it takes a great deal of effort. George Lucus might fall into this category if he weren't to blame for all the other levels as well.
Stupid sexy Flanders.
