New Intel Chipset and Extreme Edition CPU Tested

Steve writes "Today sees the launch of both a new CPU and chipset from Intel. The CPU takes the form of a 3.46Ghz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition, running at 1066FSB, and the chipset is the i925XE, the first Intel chipset to support this new FSB. HEXUS.net have a review of both. It looks like AMD still have the lead when it comes to performance, despite Intel's attempts to counter the Athlon 64 FX-55." Hack Jandy links to more reviews at AnandTech, HardOCP, and ExtremeTech.

I know someone who claims that who don't have ignorance as an excuse. The usual arguments he comes up with are:

    • AMDs are too damn hot.
    • It's Intel.
    • It's still Intel.
    • AMD get too fcking hot.
    • Hyperthreading is not a clever software hack, Intel already has real dual-core systems. So Intel rocks.
    • AMDs get too damn hot.
    • I can take the fan of a P4 and it will not blow itself up. If I do the same with an XP it will kill itself.
    • I want a computer, not a stove.
    • AMD is cheap shit. It's the Trust among processors.

Uh huh. The Hyperthreading one was nice, courtesy of last Wednesday and someone mentioning dual cores. The 'removing the fan' one is nice too. Anyone who has ever touched the heatsink of a PC that has been on for an hour will agree with me on that one.
