China Blocking Access to Google News Site
loconet writes "BBC and Reuters are reporting that China is blocking access to the Web site Google News according to media watchdog Reporters Without Borders. The organisation also accused Google of being complicit by filtering its Chinese-language site." From Reuters' version of the story: "The Paris-based group said the government had been blocking Google's English-language news Web site for about 10 days, after the company launched a Chinese-language version that removed politically sensitive reports."

Hey, at least it isn't totally offtopic this time.
English is easier said than done.

concepts like truth or fiction are beyond you, all you have is a lifelong attempt to escape the center of a value system that was broken in the first place. all you know how to do (now) is to run further and further into the lie.
No matter how funny you may think you are, there is simply no place on Slashdot for the bigotry in your post. Please do better.
No matter how funny you may find yourself, there is simply no place on Slashdot for the horrid racism implicit in your post. Please try to develop some sensitivity for other people.
Are you Chinese fucker?
What a rambling bunch of nonsense.
Slashdot seems to be very U.S.-centric. Do you have any plans to be more international in your scope?
Slashdot is U.S.-centric. We readily admit this, and really don't see it as a problem. Slashdot is run by Americans, after all, and the vast majority of our readership is in the U.S. We're certainly not opposed to doing more international stories, but we don't have any formal plans for making that happen. All we can really tell you is that if you're outside the U.S. and you have news, submit it, and if it looks interesting, we'll post it.
It is worth noting that there is a Japanese Slashdot run by VA Japan. While we helped them a little in their early days, they essentially run their own content without any real involvement from us... none of us can read Kanji! There are currently no plans to do other language or nation specific Slashdot sites.

If you don't like what I write don't be a CS and mod it down. Refute it.
Yea I can't spell. So what is your point?
Actually, we did have international inspectors for this last election. And they found no real problems.
:-p
Actually, they found one gaping problem: Bush won

Hello. I'm from Europe and I'd like to say this to chinese: We don't believe the "China is a bad nation crap" here. We're with you. America is the bad nation and bush is doing all sorts of crimes because he's afraid that if he doesn't do them somebody else will -- and will make the money. They fight China because they don't do as they tell them -- and rightly so because they have a population of 1G.
I'm sad for google though. But hey. It was pretty weird that such a cool service was free and with so little ads. Now we see how it's funded....
Sad, but information will find the way.
My wife is Chinese - time and time again she reminds me that Chinese people do not care about whether they can or cannot read about some political news publication on the internet.
You have to understand that 20 years ago, even in the US, people did their jobs without a computer on their desk. China has been successful at what they do for over 5,000 years using an abacus.
Your standard of living (free net access and unlimited access to news) is but one kind, there are many others which are rewarding.
Let me say this again so you will understand it properly - people in China do not care whether they can or can not read about Hu Jintao blowing his nose - acquisition of wealth and the ability to retire with a comfortable means of living afterwards are the primary concerns.
The chinese newspaper World Journal had a front page spread yesterday about the communist countries in Asia forming a partnership to topple the US, meanwhile they open arms to Wal-Mart. Those Bentonville folks have no idea what they are dealing with - we go over there and teach China how to build a better Wal-Mart and then get booted out a few years later when Mao-Mart stores open across the US offering prices less than Wal-Mart.
As far as I can tell, the US gave China capitalism, China gave the US communism. Thanks for nothing, Blue states.
