Profiting from Open Source Software

Secret Santa writes "Alex Salkever has written an inspiring and Linux-friendly piece about Martin Roesch -- how he went from writing open-source software to building a multimillion dollar company. Excerpt: 'Sourcefire is one of a growing number of small software players that have built new businesses around open-source code. Their business models contain various mixes of proprietary and open-source software components and span the software gamut, from other security companies such as Tripwire to database outfits such as MySQL and desktop-computing offerings like Xandros. Most are still small, with revenues well under $50 million.'"

You can make Linux PVRs using open source software and then sell them, like this individual. Look at his post for pointers.

Or you can steal open source software like Sveasoft and then use the money you earnt from stolen code to enjoy things like this.

Innovation is 1% inspiration and 90% perspiration. That is why Microsoft will win the battle for mindshare. They work hard at making sure they are on top of the game by being ahead of the curve. All the open sores zealots do is testify. Nobody wants to hear that. They want to see a finished product! Microsoft delivers! Just look at some of the open sores failed projects:

    1. Open Orifice.org (hello? Ha it even reached 1.0 yet?)
    2. Mozilla (No one even knows what this is. Yeah real bright. Base your project on dead code from a dead company)
    3. vim or emacs (Who, in this day and ag, wants to edit just text? Where are the fonts and the colors? How do I produce something useful with a tex editor? Answer: You don't! You just fiddle with config files buried in /deep/in/my/ass/etc. We don't need no stinkin text editors, we want PowerPOint)

That's just a few, the list of all the failed open sores crap goes on and on. Microsoft will win and you guys will eventually be outlawed.
