Sony PSP Launched With Long Queues In Akihabara

Juergen writes "At 7 a.m. JST, the first shops in Tokyo's 'Electric City' Akihabara opened their doors and sold the brand-new Sony PSP to the long queues of gamers (Mirror) who had waited already for more than 24 hours in a chilly 5 degrees Celsius."

Ha, while you nerds were out freezing your ass off in Akihabara waiting for a video game, I was in Ropongi picking up on your women. I'll get my PSP when the wait is shorter than five minutes.

What new element of gaming does this, or any other portable, bring to the average gamer that they need? Ooh, now i can play my version of racing/sports/rpg/fps on a small screen while hunching to get at the cumbersome controls. Call me a purist, but I think portables take too much of the gaming experience away to really enjoy any game which is released for it.
The only saving grace, at least for me, was that the portables were the last venue for good 2D gaming. This stands to change with the release of the PSP and Nindendo's latest attempt, the DS. If you really want a good 3D game experience, you might as well pick up a PS2, XBOX, Gamecube, or stick with yer good 'ol PC. Read a book if you are bored on the go, trust me, its less frustrating...
