Have you never heard of PearPC which emulates a PowerPC Macintosh under Linux, Windows and a few other assorted platforms?

okay all you zealot fanboys, resist the urge to bite my head off. I know a bunch of ppl who get screwed by apple policies in the past. I don't see the point of buying into the platform, it's overpriced, your locked in and completely dependent on apple, so then whatever apple says is how it will go. I have baghira for kde so I have all the nice interface eye-candy if i want to turn it on.

really, I want choices and an open platform, the pc is far from perfect, but apple has always sucked, even back into the 8bit days. Oh I miss the Atari and the Amiga, I weep for their demise and what could have been if they could have evolved.

everytime I think I want a mac because they look slick, I remember I have to eat apple's dog food, there will be no games, limited applications, and the iron rule of apple. I suppose you people have your own reasons for choosing your platform, but every time I read apple threads here, 50% + of the mac ppl seem like they turn their brains off and get all hot and horny for stevey's penis which they can never touch or compare to their own. I guess I feel like taking a moment to say most of your advocates suck, and reinforce my view that I should stay away. happy wankfest, I know you're not all bad, or stupid, and there are some nice tools on the mac. it could be so much better. oh well. hopefully my faith in linux proves to be fruitful.

peace out you freakz. get out of here and go do something useful :)

Apple has been systematically destroying OpenGL performance on their powerbooks lately. 10.3.4 wiped out the TiBooks. 10.3.5 took down the 15" albooks, and 10.3.6 took out the 17" albooks. In each case it took opengl frame rates and cut them to 25% (or worse) of normal. Each update listed "updated opengl drivers" and "improved performance for ATI and Radeon video chipsets". Ya, right. Is it April 1st again already?

I'm still cowering at the updates, sitting at 10.3.4 for my 15" abook, "on the edge of disaster" for my Unreal Tournament 2004 gaming enjoyment. Is 10.3.7 "safe" yet for us gamers??

MacOS amazes me, but not as much as peoples resistance to it amazes me.

Why? A security update shafted your only computer but you appear pleased that it was only somewhat shafted and unusable.

I can't speak for everyone else but I can tell you why I resist Macs: it's because of people like you. Frankly, I find your amazement at MacOS and blind belief in Apple frightening. And when I read accounts like yours I genuinely wonder if some sort of brainwashing was involved.

Looking at the long list of hardware issues outlined here and others noted on Mac forums the bullshit about how Macs "just work" is looking more and more dated. I use a dual 2Ghz G5 and a 1.5Ghz PowerBook but my zeal has been blunted lately the more I hear of major hardware ****-ups such as the ones fixed in this update. A mate of mine had to send 2 new G5s back to Apple before receiving a 3rd machine which eventually "just worked". Apple should stop marketing their products via hardware compatibility bullshit when there are so many graphics driver issues, FireWire problems and overheating processors.
