Re-Pet a Reality

tigerdarklord writes "The Sci-Fi concept of pet cloning has become a commercial venture. Genetic Savings & Clone now not only offers genebanking for your pet (alive or recently dead), but a full service cloning shop. Although they started by producing two clones of the CEO's cat, they have now produced their first commercial clone for a woman from Texas. GSC has modified their cloning procedure to overcome the resemblance issues demonstrated when the College of Veterinary Medicine, Texas A&M, created CopyCat. The technology looks promising but the $50,000 price tag will prove to place the service out of the reach of most pet owners."

for $50,000 a geek like me could have a Hooker for a 'PET' full time :p

In fact, probably most well paid geeks have already spent at least $50K on pussy.

With any luck, several justices will be replaced and all cloning in any form will be outlawed. It has no place in this world and this is pet cloning is a perfect example. Even if it isn't outlawed, you will all be judged by Him for your opinions and views. If you support this, even in your mind, you will pay. Mark my words.

Underneath all the sarcastic and funny comments about pet cloning lies the truth that our enemies will widely publicize the fact that a woman from George Bush's home state paid to $50,000 to make a copy of her cat, while they and their people live in great poverty.
This example will be used as proof that the 'infidels' have no respect for human life while are willing to spend many lifetime's wages on a selfish and childish thing like a small animal companion. It will be used as justification for murdering westerners and Americans in particular, in the name of their god.
Twenty years ago this kind of story would have just been a novelty in the human-interest, weird science category, but those days are gone.
Now every story should be examined by editors in regards to how it will be used by the enemies of the West as proof for the necessity of our destruction. C'mon guys, there's a real war going on: a war of civilizations between the secular, technological values of the West and fundamentalist Islam. If it seems distant and irrelevant from the perspective of your global media corporation's interest in modern New York, then look out the window of your media corporation's skyscraper and remember the giant skyscraper that is no longer there. You remember, the one that was destroyed by Islamic fundamentalists who seriously want to kill you and everything that you stand for and believe in?
Start thinking about the long term consequences of the stories that you print.
And while you're at it, you might suggest to your nit-wit rich friends with far too much money that spending $50,000 to clone a pet cat is not really in their best long-run interest. And if they absolutely insist on doing this kind of stupid stuff anyway (rich people can be most adamant about their need and right to do truly stupid things), ask them to please be more discrete.

So yeah, you're right. Maybe we should voluntarily control our population growth [populationconnection.org] for a better future instead of birthing 3 or 4 kids per family to then cart around in our Chevy Suburbans.

You seem to be a bit out of touch with the present.

It might interest you to know that, with the exception of immigration, both the USA and Europe have populations in decline. The population growth isn't happening in wealthy societies, it's happening in dirt-poor ones.

And if WE decide to control THEIR populations, then "voluntary" isn't quite the correct word...

Why? a) The woman (had to be from LA didn't she?) is too thick (British word for stupid) to realize that you cannot clone the soul. b) As other have pointed out, the flaws in genetic clones reduce the life expectancy of the cloned 'victim'. c) This is just not necessary. Why is it that Americans are so goddam stupid? Their movies tend to focus on a moral completion to a plot, while in reality, they just allow outragious goings on that eventually corrupt and offend the rest of the world to seep into society across the globe? It just will not surprise me if within the next few years, there is a global armed uprising against some of the moral crap going on, from cloning animals (and eventually people), getting consumers addicted to unrequired prescription drugs to advertising junk products to children. If you find something revolting, revolt! Before it is too late!
