CBS Cleans House In Wake of Erroneous Story

An independent review panel gave CBS News a scathing rebuke for its story last fall about President Bush's national guard service. The report noted that in a story that was neither fair nor accurate, and did a "disservice" to the American public, the CBS News staff had a "myopic zeal" to get the story first and gave a "rigid and blind defense" after it aired. The story's producer, Mary Mapes, was fired. Three other executives were asked to resign. The network, noting that he was scheduled for retirement from CBS Evening News in a couple of months, recommended no action be taken against Dan Rather.

CBS gets flamed over one story, and the 24/7 slanderhouse known as Fox News gets a free pass? Blasphemy!

Pudge is the Slashdot staff's resident right-wing ideologue, which may help to explain the spin of the article text. It is also interesting to note the right-wing tilt of the moderation, which often seems to happen with political articles that Pudge takes an interest in. Coincidentally, Slashdot editors have an infinite number of mod points.

It's my understanding that the British intelligence was ultimately based on the same forged documents, sourced directly from Italy, not through the US. On the other hand, there is still lots of confusion surrounding these documents. Hopefully it'll get sorted out soon.

Anyway, exactly what does this administration have to do before people lose confidence? How many incompetent mistakes must they make?

They outed a CIA agent in retaliation when her husband said the Niger uranium documents were forged.

They misled about the cost of the Medicare bill by $100 billion.

They have missed every single economic predicition they have made. The tax cuts were supposed to bring millions of new jobs and we've only seen a fraction of what was "predicted".

Powell and Rumsfeld both said "We know where the WMDs are" and it was total bullshit. Then they gave a medal to a guy responsible for that bullshit.

They completely botched Iraq by sending too few troops. They don't even arm the troops we did send. (My cousin, despite having left the Army four or five years ago, is getting shipped over to Iraq this month and he has to buy his own armor and goddamn plane ticket. Support Our Troops.)

Now our top priority is fixing Social Security because in 40 fucking years it will "go broke" (and only pay 80% of benefits). Holy shit. We gotta act now! But it's really just a ploy to end SS because they are fundamentally opposed to the concept. Why not just be honest about it? Because SS is too popular, so they have manufacture an imminent crisis.. just like in Iraq.

And Osama Bin Laden, the real terrorist, the guy who rammed planes into the WTC and Pentagon, the guy who killed ~3,000 people in about 15 minutes, is still out there making home movies.

When the fuck are you people going to say "This guy and his team are idiots?" They are dragging down the otherwise respectable Republican party.
