ExpressCards, the new PCMCIA?

randallpowell writes "PC Cards will face competition from ExpressCards in 2005 and 2006. Newer notebook PCs will have them to add wireless, HD-TV broadcast viewing, back-up storage, and more. Microsoft, Dell, and Intel are the major backers of this new expansion slot technology. While smaller, they can easily help users expand their notebook's abilities while PC Cards slowly phase out."

Slashdot today, announce that they have implemented a new search engine. In fact, they say, it was implemented several days ago and they are only now announcing it after thorough production testing.

The new search engine is the one that is used for SourceForge. CmdrTaco said, "This search engine switch will bring the OSTG family of websites in line with each others technologies." Indeed the new Slashdot search engine is on par with its SourceForge bretheren. With no ability to search Slashdot since its implementation and the 503 error responses from the server, Slashdot now offers a level of service that is exactly in line with SourceForge.

The Slashdot community was typically underwhelmed by the switch. Lackluster posts indicated that Slashdot sucks and various threats were made to Michael and CmdrTaco's wife Kathleen. Also typically, they were immediately moderated into oblivion with an unusually high number of complaints about bitchslapping. At the same time OSTG stock skyrocketed as investment analysts hurried to jump in and take advantage of what they see to be a major technological step forward.
