EriDay writes "The Wall Street Journal has a new feature called The Numbers Guy about "the way numbers and statistics are used - and abused - in the news, business and politics". The first installment lets us know that somewhere between 0 and 1 Billion (or more) people will be killed by Asian bird flu."

I hope he does a feature article on how many people die from automobile-related causes, including deaths resulting from oil-rich country-invasion(s).
But I'm not holding my breath.
As I was being arrested for marijuana possesion the officer explained to me that he had to do it because I said ya, I had a quarter in the seat.
He told me that the police know that generally marijuana use while driving actually makes people calmer and better drivers but that the law is the law.
I was practically applauded in the court when I just admitted it. I didn't pay a lawyer or anything. The fine I got was the cost of the bail.
Marijuana use from accidents is most likely from people that are also high or drunk on something else.
People can be all whacked out on Prosac or similar
drugs which are prescribed. But if they self-mediate with marijuana they are breaking the law.
I am not saying to drive stoned, that is still illegal. But people who are just high on pot don't cause accidents. If they get too high, they pull over and go to sleep. If they are too drunk they drive very fast and kill people.
And the police, at least around here, know this. Which is why you only hear about marijuana arrests when they want to get the person for whatever other reason.
