NASA Announces De-Orbit Mission For Hubble
maglor_83 writes "NASA has announced the end for Hubble. It plans on performing a "robotic de-orbit mission", and apparently its not due to the monetary costs associated with fixing it, but rather the risks involved. NASA's new goals are now manned missions to the moon, as a platform for Mars."
Shortsightedness got the better of you?
Somehow or another, this is GW's fault. I just know it.
What a crock. Oooh, maybe next year they will kill NASA for good so that we can open up a new homeland security office dedicated to finding the boogeyman. I can see it now...(activate dream sequence): "We'll smoke that boogeyman out of his hole...and don't mess with Texas"
Bush wants to kill NASA. His religious fundie supporters hate science programs which prove the earth is older than 5,000 or 6,000 years, and his rich backers want their tax money back instead of paying for oceans of LOX and Helium.
So rather than kill it outright, you set a great new goal... "Mars, bitches!" And then you don't give them enough money to actually do it. A buracratic-engineered failure, if you will. And then when they fail, you can cut their funding further because they failed... lather, rinse repeat.
Look at the "No Child Left Behind" plan. Mandatory testing in schools, and then you pull funding from the schools that do poorly... which arguably are the schools that need *more* money. Agggh!
Bush: The King of Negative Feedback Programs
I think it's funny/ironic/sad that NASA doesn't want to risk a few lives to save what can only be called one of the most important scientific tools in the history of mankind, but here we are throwing over a thousand lives away for a war we now know beyond a shadow of a doubt was brought about by a complete and utter farce on the part of the Bush administration.
I truly feel ashamed to be an American these days. And I don't want to hear "well if you don't like it, leave." Why don't all of the IDIOTS leave, who allow such a gross mismanagement of power and the people's trust to take place.
When a human falls over, they right themselves.
"When a human falls over, he/she rights himself/herself." or "When humans fall over, they right themselves.".
The earth based Mars Express project
"The Earth-based".
A human [...] could do everything [...]in about a day, easy.
"easily".
The REAL point of the nebulous 'Mission to Mars' is to cause NASA to cancel much of its *real* science projects so it will be easier to pull the rug from under the whole agency. NASA isn't the LARGEST expense in the Federal Budget, but it IS extremely visible. So when the Bush administration starts making REAL DEEP cuts to domestic programs, it can KILL NASA and point to its carcass as part of its 'sincerity appearance' for deeper cuts that cause much suffering.
