Browser Speed Comparisons

kfrench writes "Internet browser speed tests for 'cold starts', 'warm starts', rendering CSS, rendering tables, script execution, displaying multiple images and 'history'. 'Opera seems to be the fastest browser for Windows. Firefox is not faster than Internet Explorer, except for scripting, but for standards support, security and features, it is a better choice.'"

You know it's been almost a year since the Windows source code was leaked - and has it caused all manner of terrible vulnerabilities to be discovered in the software? No, at least no more than usual. This proves it's just as (in fact, probably more) secure than Linux et al.

Another win for the closed source development model! Internet Explorer rocks!

I think another thing this demonstrates is that closed source browsers (Safari on OS X and IE on Windows) are still head and shoulders above their open source counterparts. The hype behind Open Source just never seems to let up, so it gets a lot of press but when it comes right down to where the rubber meets the road, closed source software is pretty much always better.

ACtually, it is because Microsoft hires geniuses to code their software, whereas Firefox is just a bunch of kids messing around in C++.

I use w2k at work and if I minimize FF for a while, clicking the tab to bring it back up can take over 20 seconds, then at least another 20 seconds before all the buttons and toolbars start working properly.

Uh...the real Mozilla beat Firefox at every test except cold start (which it doesn't really have to do because of its IE-style preloading). Also, Firefox is gay.

    Dear Lying Homo,
I have a sudden urge to beat you about the Zealous head and neck with a blunt instrument while the thunderous sounds of Van Halens "Jamie's Cryin" roar in the background.
A beating is never 100%, unless delivered to the bone jarring crecendoes of Eddy Van, and of course the (now Paramedic) vocal stylings of the one true Van Halen Lead, David Lee Roth.
His legendary bad-assedness is truly set in stone, based simply on the fact that he has never been spoken of without the middle name being mentioned. That's serial killer-type reverence. Your run-of-the-mill Sammy Hagar (who cannot, somehow, drive 55) does not, and will never, fill the beating shoes of the DLR. Please play the "Hot for Teacher" 7" and proceed to commit seppuku. I am stuck here listening to Diver Down. I can't move cos of the hard-on.
