VoIP for Deployed Soldiers?

rickbassham asks: "With VoIP really catching on these days, I decided to look into it for keeping deployed soldiers in touch with family and friends. I am currently a soldier in Iraq, and have the ability to get satellite-based internet, thanks to a few of the locals. While individually it is prohibitively expensive, a group of soldiers can come together to purchase a decent-to-high-speed internet connection. One of my plans is to link other soldiers to Vonage or another VoIP provider, so they will be able to keep in touch. Understanding the latency issues with VoIP via satellite (not to mention the other disadvantages), what upload speed does Slashdot recommend as a minimum for a QoS enabled connection for about 15-20 soldiers? The same for a non-QoS connection? What recommendations do you have for a good VoIP provider?"

I have no fucking idea what the fuck I'm doing. Tell me me how can I do this shit right without doing it right?!?

    God damn editors!
Please drop these shitty ask-slashdot articles where there is nothing to answer else than *DUH*!
I can see a solution for the actual dilemma would be nice. Why can't the editors just truncate and EDIT the article so it would actually lead to fruitful answers instead of crappy rambling by clueles bastards?

Don't be so quick to assume any polling is truly accurate. It's all a function of how you ask the questions and who you ask.

Zogby isn't the most accurate polling organization, to put it mildly. Follow the money. It's not that hard to see who funds Zogby and the histories of his people. "How to lie with statistics" must be on their required reading list.

70%/50% think attacks on the U.S. forces are justified? That smells of high BS.

Exactly what were the questions asked and do you truly understand the dialects? The truth of the situation doesn't match your claims. 60% turnout for public elections wouldn't have happened if your assertions were true. Nor, for that matter, would the U.S. military survive.

"U.S. forces" who are attacked include the people who are bringing plumbing, food, infrastructure, schools and safety to the Iraqis. If you ask "should the crusading American occupiers be thrown out" you'd get a very different answer than if you asked "should the people bringing you fresh water be killed."

Don't forget the number of people still at large who are, essentially, the same as the Nazi Wolverines after the end of WWII. What happened to all of the Saddam secret police folks? Did they somehow magically turn into benevolent producers for the good of the society or are they trying to escape responsibility for the things they've done?

6 months from now, if you were to look back at what you just typed, you'd see it's as wrong as predictions of slaughter of the allied forces.

Just out of curiosity, and in an attempt to deflect the bs which seems to be infiltrating this thread...

Just exactly what would the odds have been that you could have owned such a business under Saddam's rule? Would you have been able to post here at Slashdot?

There is no bending them over, a soldier is paid and knows the pay when going into the service for his country. They get fed, they get clothed and they get brainwashed, its mostly volunteer (if you don't consider socioeconomics) so don't tell me they are getting bent over and forced to call. My god, the soldiers go into a country, kill and rape, pillage and plunder the landscape and culture (or lack of it) of a country. And you want to complain about their phone bills? What about the customers at home paying 50 cents to a buck a minute on phone cards, the very people that make it possible for the soldier to go and fight a 'war' in the first place? Free phone calls for soldiers? How about sending me some free camo gear, I'll take some used genuine articles for winter! After all, my tax dollars paid for it.
