Dave Zatz writes "Tivo, struggling to keep customers and inch towards profitability as execs step down, has continued to shift focus from pure PVR functionality towards digital convergence. Tivo's recently released Home Media Engine SDK extends Tivo's capabilities as developers churn early Java apps out, including the eBay-developed BuyItNow and the independent Airport Express AirTunes remote control. The recently released Tivo To Go allows PC users to transfer shows to their computers for viewing, editing, and burning shows. Mac users aren't entirely forgotten - a hidden feature in the OSX Tivo Desktop 1.9 provides AAC music playback through the television."

    It was both strategic and practical for a new media brand of popular gay identity to emerge in the 1990s, securing the reign of Gay Fascism. The relative strength of the world economy in the 1990s, linked to the spending surplus created by a boom in information technologies, (which coincidently were primarily image driven indulgences romatcising technology to cover dangerously expanding capitalism) accelerated the need for a superfluous, image based spending outlet to exist. The Gay Market was created to satisfy the spending surplus and Gay Fascism took root. To appeal to the recently discovered economic power of the Gay Market, Gay Fascism dictates that according to Gay, desire and need take on a superfluous, fashionable, indulgent soft sell to cover the death, decay, and offensive stench of AIDS. (What Gay previously symbolized) Gay currently exists as a tyranny of style without content. Style reveals itself as a tyranny of absurd romanticism, nostalgism, coolness, and bourgeois mysticism. All playing into the politically correct power usurpers of the RIGHT WING.

    Coolness exists as an elusive sense of self actualization. Cool is created by capitalists to sell products or ideas that falsely promise self actualization. Gay Fascism says Gay is cool. Under Gay Fascism there is a way to be be gay that is cool and a way to be gay that is not cool. Gay is so cool that young homosexuals are forced to deny self-righteousness and self-determination, or awareness of individuality in thought or feeling. These lost human virtues have effectively become frozen under Gay Fascism and its frigidity of cool. Young homosexuals have become a mindless army of gay that spread a tyranny of style under the influence of cool.

    I've been saying TiVo would die for years, and you'd have to be a complete idiot to buy one since you're locked into the non-existant viability of the company.

    I hope they die fast to make room for real PVR's that aren't locked to the company.

    My only regret is I can't personally laugh in the face of everyone who bought the "lifetime" service plan.

    I think I'll pick up a bottle of champagne on the way home.
