Free Pass shows a map breakdown of the states while Tallahassee.com takes a look at a newly proposed bill in Florida, backed by Sprint, BellSouth, Verizon, and Comcast, designed to bog down the muni-development process."

Not that same old tired argument again.

Oh sure, this legislation must be evil because it it was proposed by corporations trying to make money. And we all know that any thing done to make money must be evil and wrong. I know that every day after I get done with work, I feel guilty about another day spent under the evil influence of money. If only the government would do everything, maybe it could save us from all these evil opportunities to make profit.

That's right, the government can provide internet access more cheaply than business because they don't require a profit, in much the same way that public universities provide education more affordably than private ones. Of course, you'd better not count the money the government collects in taxes, or you might see the truth of the matter. . .

Who am I kidding. This is Slashdot. Let the rampant socialist ranting continue unabated. All hail wonderful, and infallible government spending. All hate our horrible, fucked up government. Yeah, the people on this discussion board sure have it figured out. It's too bad more americans don't appreciate the beautiful hypocrisy that is socialism.

As to the rest of the comments, it has already been pointed out that these US vs Europe discussions are not relevant to this discussion, and counter-productive. I think that the original post was either flamebait (to which everyone has risen) or somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Relax.

I was using the royal "We" as in "me and all correct-thinking people". :)

USians *cringe* Please don't use that non-word. It's so ludicrously stupid.

Whatever the poster's motives, it represents a lot of very dangerous thinking where people are willing trade their freedom for a little free service from the government.

It is incorrect to say anti-Americanism is due to the current administration. The Europeans never liked Clinton until they decided they hated Bush more.

The way I see it is Europeans want their countries to have more power and influence. It only makes sense that a weaker US would make them relatively stronger. The Europeans dislike the US because it exerts more power and influence than they do. Power and influence that should be theirs.

You're votes count if the Tool selected by the Corporations to "win" the elections *sez* that your votes count.

    Get used to it.

This child-like Faith in the System that you exhibit is absolutely what makes you and others like you the biggest part of the problem in the US today. You really should drop back and read some of the writings of the Founders before you try to decieve the broader public who may not have the kinds of ... entanglements ... that so obviously have trapped you in in a sinking ship - so to speak.
