News Corp and Eidos Slam Buyout Rumour
Blue Ray writes "Both News Corp and Eidos have openly rubbished claims the the Murdoch behemoth will soon be absorbing the British publisher, corroborating a snippet in the Guardian's market forces column. In an article on SPOnG.com, News Corp stated "we've never held any kind of talks with Eidos", while an Eidos executive told the website "We read this and were astounded. We had no contact from the journalist who wrote the story and we are still laughing about what we read.""
Spong have had it in for GI.biz for ages (this 'report' apparently 'debunks' a GI.biz story, and actively attacks them). I wonder why this is? Perhaps it is because Spong's parent company, Eleventeenth have a rather cosy relationship with MCV, who are in direct competition with GI.biz in news reporting, advertising and job advertising.
Spong's headlines even appear on the MCV homepage, and they are hosted on the same IP.
Not that this matters much, Spong have limited credability anyhow. Expect one of thier astroturfing /. accounts to reply to this soon
I see journalists use it in headlines (especially concerning politics and law and business) all the time, and it can mean anything from "insult" and "discredit" to (in this case) "LMAO." Do a Google search for slams -brakes -door -tennis -poetry (adding "slam" returns too many non-relevant results) and you'll see what I mean.
It's such a sensationalist word and, frankly, I have become quite annoyed at the frequency with which I see it.
linky
Now THAT is the epitome of laziness. It's called COPY AND PASTE, people! Learn to use it!

Don't worry. Nobody else even knows this story exists. Your secret is safe.
Just for the record, the original, wrong, story appeard on GamesIndustry.biz first and was copied across the Internet by other websites who are impressed by GI's URL. GI has NO association with any gaming industry institutions what so ever. GI is mostly one bloke in his room re-writing press releases.
/. posts so many of GI's stories in the games section, they'd be better off tracking down the original press release.
I still don't know why

Sweeeet.

it makes headlines and it is a cheap way to add veracity to rumors. same old crap...
Large print giveth, and the small print taketh away
I'm not nuts about it either, but it's better than the verb "eyes."
"President eyes embargo," for example, could mean the President is considering an embargo, that his eyes are embargoing, or that there's an embargo on President eyes. The noun nature of the word is so close to the surface and the headlines so terse, some truly ridiculous situations pop up.
Why write in the newspaper headline style anyway? You're not fighting for column inches online.... do we really need to drop articles and conjunctions from every headline?
Frankly, I'm frankly fed up with the the frankly frequency I see the word frankly.
