Unsung Heroes of Open Source
Yosef writes "Jon Udell uses his experience from using and hacking the free software BitPim to say that developers of such less-known projects are the true heroes of open source: 'For solving a host of vexing problems with quiet competence, and for doing it in ways that invite others to stand on their shoulders, I salute them all.'"
Congratulations? I thought this was a news site.
An interesting though short and lacking on detail article to be sure, but, um, so? And December 30th 2004? I guess it's still relevant, but was it really necessary to post that now?
Stop promoting your own shitty software, troll! TROLL!
MacOSX is actually entirely Open-Source based. And its a good example of why Open Source is bad and bulshit.
Dont get me wrong its based on a noble principle that everyone can use and improve the source but the problem with open Source is that the source can be bought and closed. The BSD license is the best example of that Both Apple and Windows closed Open Source BSD licensed code.
Mac OSX is based on Darwin and Nextstep , and lots of open standards and open source software.
Like everything in life if there is no one to protect it and keep it open for everyone some people take advantage of the good will of others and close it for there own profit.
You dont mean for free BTW , you mean at no cost. Freedom as nothing o do with cost.

For all the high-flying blabber bandied about by Slashdot and everyone else about "innovation" and how Microsoft "can't innovate", the only thing most FOSS projects do is copy them. Or Apple.
The only refreshing thing I've seen on the Linux desktop lately is XFCE.
