Unix servers up 2.7%, Linux servers up 35.6%

    Linux is making inroads on replacing old UNIX servers. We already knew this.

    No doubt, fanboys will use it to claim some sort of global victory for Linux. You're replacing old UNIX servers. Congratulations.

    Where did you get those numbers? I read: "Unix server revenue was $5.2 billion in the fourth quarter of 2004 while the corresponding figure for Windows was $4.6 billion. Linux servers represented 9 percent of worldwide server revenue in 2004, which is 35.6 percent growth compared to the year before."

    Which means that Linux was 9% of 5.2 billion or .468 billion, roughly 1/10th Windows server share.

    Way to FUD there buddy. You should work for Microsoft!
