GNOME Ignoring its Own Users?
Jonathan writes "Some editorials were posted on the web the last few days about GNOME and its apparent lack of interest on user feedback, especially when GNOME pitches itself to follow a 'users first philosophy' in their press releases. OSNews started with an editorial about market research or lack thereof, Expert-Zone posted another one on how OSS must learn to take responsibility on its great success."
People could do what I did and buy a Mac and run MacOS X. It's nice having a "real" GUI on top of BSD rather than a buggy X11 window manager.
Mod up interesting. Despite what a handful of posters trying to get laid have claimed on the article about women leaving IT, women are utterly shit at using computers. Just like men are shit at ironing and washing clothes.
She can 'bitch' all she likes. It's her right. Take your arrogant attitude and leave if you don't like it.
occultae nullus est respectus musicae - originally a Greek proverb
"Those who aren't willing to CONTRIBUTE to an Open Source/Free Software project are not entitled to an opinion"
Which is why users like me who don't contribute often end up shelling for Windows XP. The reason why commercial software succeeds is they listen (interview, focus groups, the works) to users, do what users want, not what the developers want or think is cool.
Yes! OSS/Freeware developers need not have responsibility to end users (by choice or by lack of resources). But in disowning that responsibility they have also given up the claim to be committed to make useful software for the masses.
And then we wonder why dumb users don't see the superiority of the command line or robustness of Linux or the "flexibility" of open desktops and why it is unfair that Windows has the advantage.
Progress?
I suppose you might notice some progress if Gnome was the only thing you ever used. But people that use real desktop OSes and even KDE that are exposed to gnome frankly can't see how using a desktop that is a decade out of touch with reality could possibly be considered progress.
Gnome sucks
I'd go on a Vegan diet but the delivery time from Vega is too long. --brownkitty
